Es sin duda la obra a que m\u00e1s estrechamente ha quedado asociado el nombre de Hesse.Se trata de la descripci\u00f3n entre la fantas\u00eda y la realidad de la vida de un hombre solitario, culto, desesperado, antisocial, ateo y suicida en potencia, que acaba convencido de tener un alma mixta de hombre y de lobo estepario y que alcanza su verdadero concepto de la felicidad a trav\u00e9s de una serie de experiencias transgresoras en medio de una sociedad burgesa, a la que aborrece, a trav\u00e9s de la amistad con personas a las que nunca habr\u00eda frecuentado en condiciones normales. Se puede leer como una obra transgresora, rebelde e inmoral o, por el contrario como una met\u00e1fora del valor de la vida y la muerte, del odio y del amor en las sociedades modernas hu\u00e9rfanas de valores, en definitiva del destino del hombre.Quiz\u00e1 entre lo m\u00e1s singular de esta novela est\u00e9 que se trata de una obra muy le\u00edda por los adolescentes, que descubre un modo duro de enfrentarse a la sociedad, a las relaciones sentimentales y a la muerte.
