De inmediato celebrada por los cr\u00edticos m\u00e1s estrictos pero le\u00edda tambi\u00e9n por aquellos que raramente se acercan a los libros, Trainspotting se convirti\u00f3 en uno de los acontecimientos literarios y tambi\u00e9n extraliterarios de la \u00faltima d\u00e9cada. Fue r\u00e1pidamente adaptada al teatro y luego llevada a la pantalla por Danny Boyle, uno de los j\u00f3venes prodigio del cine ingl\u00e9s. Sus protagonistas son un grupo de j\u00f3venes desesperadamente realistas, ni se les ocurre pensar en el futuro: saben que nada o casi nada va a cambiar, habitantes del otro Edimburgo, el que no aparece en los famosos festivales, capital europea del sida y para\u00edso de la desocupaci\u00f3n, la miseria y la prostituci\u00f3n, embarcados en una peripecia vital cuyo combustible es la droga, \u00abel elixir que les da la vida, y se la quita\u00bb.
