Elvendedor, su mujer y el aprendiz fueron arrestados y puestos en la picota,azotados y marcados; el aprendiz, condenado a nueve a\u00f1os de galeras, elvendedor a cinco y la mujer a un asilo para toda la vida\u00bb.\u00abEl cristianismo al descubierto, publicado an\u00f3nimamente en 1761 en Nancyy en 1767 en Amsterdam (aunque en esa edici\u00f3n se lee Londres, para despistar alas autoridades francesas) fue uno de los libros m\u00e1s buscados y le\u00eddos delsiglo XVIII, y hoy sigue tan vigente como entonces. \u2022 \u00abEl combate de laIlustraci\u00f3n sigue vivo y pocas veces ha sido tan urgente: se trata de uncombate por la libertad\u00bb (Andr\u00e9 Comte-Sponville).\u2022\u00ab\u00a1Divino Holbach! La pasi\u00f3n atea de estefil\u00f3sofo es considerable. Pulveriza los melindres de\u00edstas de Rousseau, lascomedias anticlericales de Voltaire, defensor de la religi\u00f3n para el pueblo, ylas dudas de Diderot sobre Dios\u00bb (Michel Onfray). \u2022 \u00abEl tema principal tanto en pol\u00edtica como en cultura no es ya la batallaentre la derecha y la izquierda, sino entre la Ilustraci\u00f3n y el oscurantismo\u00bb (Philipp Blom). \u2022 \u00abEn los tres cuartos de siglo queprecedieron 1789, se produjo el gran vuelco responsable, m\u00e1s que ning\u00fan otro,de nuestra identidad actual.
