Para una lectura m\u00e1s \u00e1gil, se han eliminado las notas a pie de p\u00e1gina y las referencias documentales, pero se ha mantenido la bibliograf\u00eda.\u00c9ste no es un libro de historia de arquitectura, sino un ensayo para comprender en toda su extensi\u00f3n lo que significaron las catedrales g\u00f3ticas para la humanidad del Occidente medieval entre los siglos XII y XVI. Se trata de un esfuerzo interpretativo dirigido a los lectores interesados en el conocimiento de una de las manifestaciones m\u00e1s apasionantes del genio creador de los seres humanos.Una catedral g\u00f3tica puede explicarse como un edificio compuesto por materiales de construcci\u00f3n organizados seg\u00fan unas determinadas t\u00e9cnicas y presentado con un determinado estilo; pero es tambi\u00e9n un texto semi\u00f3tico que contiene un mensaje expresado a trav\u00e9s de unas claves que es preciso conocer para poder entenderlo en su totalidad.
