Sobre \u00e9l se han vertido los m\u00e1s generosos calificativos que apuntan en su gran mayor\u00eda a elevarlo hacia altas cumbres de la santidad. Su vida es un testimonio ejemplarizante al que los diferentes credos y religiones vuelven los ojos para encontrar una clara referencia de las virtudes humanas.No es raro entonces que Romain Rolland, otro humanista como \u00e9l, otro obsesionado con los ideales de la paz y de la justicia, tratara de compartirnos su vida a trav\u00e9s de una de las biograf\u00edas que m\u00e1s se aproxima a la esencia de Gandhi.Cuando Romain Rolland se ocup\u00f3 de Gandhi, no hab\u00eda en Europa ni sensibilidad ni voluntad por conocer el mensaje hind\u00fa. Fue por tanto un verdadero pionero en la ruta del pensamiento occidental, y asumi\u00f3 en cierto modo una actitud heroica por cuanto abri\u00f3 nuevos senderos de comprensi\u00f3n y entendimiento hacia la cosmovisi\u00f3n asi\u00e1tica, que hoy resulta casi familiar al hombre culto de Occidente.Entre Gandhi y Rolland, adem\u00e1s, hay la coincidencia de ser contempor\u00e1neos y de haber existido ambos en uno de los momentos de m\u00e1s tensi\u00f3n pol\u00edtica en el mundo; y un dato relevante: tuvieron un trato personal cercano.
