Una de las partidas que se juega, entre otras, simula el enfrentamiento entre la cultura occidental y la musulmana para alcanzar la supremac\u00eda, pero tal divertimento, tras los atentados del 11S, deja de serlo, y el Club se convierte en un Centro de Estudios Estrat\u00e9gicos, organizaci\u00f3n que, por su labor, se hace molesta para diversos tipos de intereses. De ah\u00ed que un assassin atente contra el director del Centro, quien, en la frontera entre la vida y la muerte, rememora vivencias en el Monasterio de la Vida, lugar en el que recibi\u00f3 un anillo con un pent\u00e1gono sobre chat\u00f3n de \u00e1gata lace. Y all\u00ed, el equilibrado director del Centro de Estudios Estrat\u00e9gicos supo del \u201camor en la madurez\u201d. Mientras esto sucede en un lugar de Europa, en el Sahara profundo, el joven Ahmed se ve sometido a experiencias dur\u00edsimas, de las que sale gracias a su determinaci\u00f3n, y en las que conoce a Amina. Y con ella experimenta el amor (\u201cel amor en la juventud\u201d). Entrambos se topan con un secreto familiar en el que se hace referencia al Tesoro de las Campanas. Al tratar de desvelarlo, la joven pareja se ve involucrada en el Monasterio de la Vida. Simult\u00e1neamente, en otra l\u00ednea de la trama, dos agentes de campo del Centro de Estudios Estrat\u00e9gicos, dos yagos, averiguan que est\u00e1n previstos sendos atentados, uno en el Museo del Prado y otro, en los trenes de cercan\u00edas de la Comunidad de Madrid.
