En la apasionante historia de sus vidas, desde su adolescencia precoz en el shtetl, hasta las pausadas meditaciones de su edad madura, vemos las adversidades que los inmigrantes enfrentan en la larga traves\u00eda a Am\u00e9rica, el complejo proceso de adaptaci\u00f3n a un ambiente desconocido y el desarrollo fenomenal de sus negocios. A trav\u00e9s de su historia se perfila otra: la del nacimiento de una t\u00edpica comunidad jud\u00eda en el seno de una ciudad cristiana.
