Tras ser testigo del asesinato de su predecesor, traslada la corte al valle de San Mart\u00edn, un lugar agreste y salvaje, alejado de la corrupci\u00f3n y podredumbre de una incipiente nobleza, que no duda en hacer uso continuado de sus privilegios para denigrar a un pueblo que ya comienza a hastiarse de sus gobernantes. Establecido en un humilde castillo, rodeado de monta\u00f1as inaccesibles, intenta recomponer los pedazos desgajados de su reino con la ayuda de un temible guerrero, Varadal de Tarna, al que le unen fuertes lazos de sangre. Desgraciadamente, los planes del rey no se desarrollan como desea: los traidores le siguen all\u00e1 donde va, y la amenaza andalus\u00ed acecha constantemente las fronteras del \u00faltimo reducto de la Hispania libre. Por su parte, Varadal, hombre temido y respetado por su buen juicio y valor, y acostumbrado a librar las m\u00e1s cruentas batallas, tendr\u00e1 que hacer frente a la m\u00e1s importante de todas: la del coraz\u00f3n. Sus encuentros con una sencilla y rebelde monta\u00f1esa le har\u00e1n cambiar su percepci\u00f3n sobre el amor y el coraje. Nora es una joven terca y humilde, asentada en la ribera del r\u00edo Nal\u00f3n, que se niega a aceptar los cambios que se van sucediendo en su apacible existencia, vi\u00e9ndose obligada a actuar de forma beligerante para preservar su vida. Sus enfrentamientos con Varadal avocar\u00e1n su destino hacia un final inesperado para ambos. Romance, historia y mitolog\u00eda, se unen de la mano en esta novela que nos traslada a una \u00e9poca ancestral en la que la vida de un ser humano carec\u00eda de valor, y donde, si eras mujer, pod\u00edas ser usada como tributo al enemigo a cambio de forjar una paz que se tambaleaba sobre el filo de las espadas.
