Tal es el M\u00e9xicoque dibuja y en que se mueve Ram\u00f3n Rub\u00edn, ese viajero incansable. Bastar\u00edaasomarse a cualquier lugar de nuestra geograf\u00eda para encontrar los personajesque habitan los Cuentos del mundo mestizo:la vida de las rancher\u00edas, la de los peque\u00f1os poblados y la de las grandesciudades que aparecen en sus narraciones como aventuras vividas al filo de unitinerario vital, historias recogidas en el curso de las diarias andanzas. De antemano el autor ha fijado susreglas del juego: \u00abEl cuento \u2014afirma\u2014 debe ser el relato de un episodioincidental organizado de acuerdo con una estructura de corte cl\u00e1sico, con suenunciado, desarrollo y desenlace. Sin estos tres momentos el futuro cuentoentra en el terreno de la disquisici\u00f3n. El cuento es s\u00f3lo la recreaci\u00f3n de unaan\u00e9cdota que contenga cierta situaci\u00f3n parad\u00f3jica\u00bb. Rub\u00edn considera que en elespacio reducido que ocupa una historia no es factible profundizar en lapsiquis del ser humano, pero que, en cambio, es posible captar el inter\u00e9s dellector y comunicarle su emoci\u00f3n. No se acerca a sus temas conpretensiones antropol\u00f3gicas ni con los prop\u00f3sitos experimentales de losnarradores que buscan nuevas f\u00f3rmulas expresivas. Rub\u00edn confiesa que ha puestomayor cuidado en el estudio del ambiente. Por ende, se interesa en averiguarlas decisivas caracter\u00edsticas que imprimen los elementos tel\u00faricos sobre lavida del individuo. \u00abRam\u00f3nRub\u00edn \u2014afirma Manuel Pedro Gonz\u00e1lez\u2014 es un diestro alfarero que sabe aprovecharcon gran sentido art\u00edstico las cualidades y defectos del barro humano con que trabaja.De sus manos sale esta r\u00fastica materia transformada en rica cer\u00e1mica que ennada desmerece de la elaborada con elementos urbanos. Y esto sin idealizarla nitransgredir los l\u00edmites del realismo de buena ley.
