En \u00e9l se sientan las bases del comunismo libertario que habr\u00eda de imponerse, con el tiempo, como la f\u00f3rmula a desarrollar por los anarquistas de todo el mundo, superando las propuestas colectivistas no s\u00f3lo de Bakunin sino tambi\u00e9n de muchos &#8216;socialistas autoritarios&#8217;. Kropotkin analiza aqu\u00ed las revoluciones habidas hasta entonces, y concluye que es el pan -la viabilidad material- lo imprescindible para el \u00e9xito revolucionario y para instalar definitivamente el verdadero comunismo, y que s\u00f3lo una revoluci\u00f3n total, apoyada en el ciencia y la ayuda mutua, lograr\u00e1 ese ideal que sabe perfectamente posible aqu\u00ed y ahora.Originalmente escrito en franc\u00e9s, apareci\u00f3 por primera vez como una serie de art\u00edculos en los peri\u00f3dicos anarquistas Le R\u00e9volt\u00e9 y La Revolt\u00e9 (ambos editados por Kropotkin).
