La ejecuci\u00f3n es muy simple: el traje del caballero es de papel y, al cubrirlo sus ayudantes, se lo quita, lo dobla y lo esconde en sus ropas que son el mismo uniforme de los dem\u00e1s, a los que se une. As\u00ed se \u201cdesvanece en el aire\u201d ante los espectadores. \u00c9stos, comenta Carr, no alabar\u00edan el ingenio del truco sino que se sentir\u00edan \u201cdefraudados\u201d de saberlo, sensaci\u00f3n parecida a la que experimentan algunos lectores cuando en el cap\u00edtulo final se da la soluci\u00f3n a un problema embrollado. El profesor Charles Grimaud se encontraba en una taberna contando a unos amigos qu\u00e9 hab\u00eda de cierto detr\u00e1s de la antigua superstici\u00f3n que hablaba de hombres saliendo de sus ata\u00fades.
