Pese a que la amistad que los une es extra\u00f1a, ninguno logra cortar una relaci\u00f3n que termina siendo capital para cada uno de ellos. Malouf va movi\u00e9ndose adelante y atr\u00e1s en el tiempo, arrojando luz sobre sus personajes y logrando un espectacular fresco de la Australia del siglo XX.
