Pero nadie nos informa acerca de la propia ciencia, sobre la cual lo ignoramos casi todo.Este fascinante libro de Harry Collins y Trevor Pinch, dos prestigiosos soci\u00f3logos de la ciencia, parece a primera vista una colecci\u00f3n de historias sobre episodios curiosos, discutibles o fraudulentos de la investigaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica: desde los fallos en los experimentos de Pasteur (que nadie quiere recordar en estos d\u00edas en que se conmemora su centenario), hasta el reciente esc\u00e1ndalo de la \u00abfusi\u00f3n fr\u00eda\u00bb, pasando por experimentos fallidos que sirvieron para \u00abdemostrar\u00bb la teor\u00eda de la relatividad, por el estudio de la vida sexual de las lagartijas lesbianas o por la investigaci\u00f3n sobre los neutrinos solares (donde experimentos que han costado millones de d\u00f3lares no han conseguido los resultados que se buscaban).Estos relatos se leen con curiosidad y con gusto, pero su finalidad no es la de divertimos, sino la de mostrarnos \u00abc\u00f3mo funciona\u00bb en realidad la ciencia: desenga\u00f1arnos de la mitolog\u00eda que pretende hacernos creer que los cient\u00edficos operan con verdades exactamente probadas, para mostrarnos que las certezas que nos proponen nacen con frecuencia de resultados ambiguos que se imponen por el consentimiento de los propios cient\u00edficos.
