Conocemos las c\u00e9lebres batallas y hemos visto la bandera del Ej\u00e9rcito Rojo levant\u00e1ndose sobre el Reichstag. Menos se ha escrito sobre una realidad atroz. A saber, que la tierra conquistada fue escenario de una pr\u00e1ctica de exterminio de diversos pueblos, y muy principalmente del pueblo jud\u00edo, que se cobr\u00f3 la vida de millones de inocentes. Las masacres o los campos de concentraci\u00f3n levantados con la misma prisa con la que se administraba la muerte, no eran una mera consecuencia de la guerra. Bien al contrario, el exterminio era su raz\u00f3n de ser. El ej\u00e9rcito alem\u00e1n actuaba de acuerdo a un plan sistem\u00e1tico dise\u00f1ado en Berl\u00edn y nacido en la pragm\u00e1tica racista del Tercer Reich.Vasili Grossman e Ily\u00e1 Ehrenburg compilaron los testimonios de los supervivientes para que el mundo conociera la insondable magnitud del horror. Cientos de testimonios llegados a sus manos o recogidos por medio de entrevistas a las v\u00edctimas sirvieron para erigir un monumento hecho de sangre y hero\u00edsmo, el de quienes padecieron el encierro en los guetos y tomaron el camino de la ejecuci\u00f3n; el de los pocos que se atrevieron a desafiar a los verdugos.
