Para responder a esta pregunta nada mejor que centrarse en uno de sus textos fundamentales, el credo, en el que la comunidad cristiana ha sintetizado su fe y a trav\u00e9s del cual la proclama. Siendo un texto fijado en los albores del cristianismo, se hace necesario entender bien qu\u00e9 se quiso decir y cu\u00e1les fueron el contexto y el trasfondo en los que nace. Pero por ser expresi\u00f3n viva de la fe, ha de ser sometido a una constante reinterpretaci\u00f3n para que sus f\u00f3rmulas sean inteligibles a los creyentes de cada \u00e9poca. El equilibrio entre la fidelidad a algo recibido en el seno de la Iglesia y la actualizaci\u00f3n de su contenido es una exigencia que ata\u00f1e no s\u00f3lo a la teolog\u00eda, sino a la vida de fe de todo creyente. Joseph Ratzinger (Marktl am Inn, Baviera 1927) estudi\u00f3 en Freising y en la Universidad de M\u00fanich. Sacerdote en 1951, ejerci\u00f3 como profesor de teolog\u00eda fundamental en Bonn y de dogma e historia de los dogmas en M\u00fcnster y Ratisbona. Arzobispo de M\u00fanich y Freising en 1977, fue promovido a cardenal ese mismo a\u00f1o; ha sido durante muchos a\u00f1os prefecto de la Congregaci\u00f3n para la doctrina de la fe.
