Sus destinos se unen para encontrar una explicaci\u00f3n a la muerte del muchacho, que la polic\u00eda y la prensa han achacado, tras cerrarse el caso, a un ajuste de cuentas por asuntos de drogas. La joven niega la versi\u00f3n oficial, incluso en contra de la propia familia del fallecido, y el escritor la ayudar\u00e1 en su accidentada investigaci\u00f3n, que ir\u00e1 desgranando una oscura trama, relacionada con asuntos tan turbios y poco legales como la pr\u00e1ctica de la eutanasia y la eugenesia, al tiempo que pone en peligro sus propias vidas. Paralelamente, la narraci\u00f3n se traslada a la Alemania nazi, donde conoceremos los detalles de la construcci\u00f3n de una de las primeras c\u00e1maras de gas en el Castillo de Grafeneck, lugar, junto con otros similares, en el que murieron cientos de alemanes con deficiencias ps\u00edquicas y f\u00edsicas, y donde se gest\u00f3 la terrible idea del gran genocidio perpetrado contra los jud\u00edos y otras etnias consideradas impuras por los nazis.
