La historia es relatada por tres narradores: un escritor h\u00fangaro en Berl\u00edn Oriental, marcado por el recuerdo de su padre (un fiscal que se suicid\u00f3 tras el levantamiento de 1956) y por el amor homosexual que le une a un poeta alem\u00e1n, un segundo narrador, alter ego del primero, es un esteta que protagoniza una historia que transcurre en el imperio austroh\u00fangaro durante la Belle \u00c9poque de comienzos de siglo, finalmente un tercer narrador es un amigo de infancia del protagonista principal, que coincide con \u00e9l casualmente en un hotel de Mosc\u00fa.
