Esta obra pretende desvelar la naturaleza de las energ\u00edas renovables y transmitir los fundamentos de su utilizaci\u00f3n y aplicaci\u00f3n. Se analizan todas y cada una de las fuentes, desde la m\u00e1s conocida y utilizada, como la solar, incluyendo las energ\u00edas e\u00f3lica, de la biomasa, geot\u00e9rmica e hidr\u00e1ulica, hasta las que est\u00e1n a\u00fan en fase de investigaci\u00f3n, como la energ\u00eda del mar. Se complementa con un estudio general sobre la problem\u00e1tica de la energ\u00eda y con un an\u00e1lisis sobre los sistemas de almacenamiento de energ\u00eda. Por otra parte, actualmente existe una cierta conciencia ambiental, lo que representa una situaci\u00f3n muy favorable. Pero una gran parte de los problemas ambientales que se plantean continuamente, o pueden ser prevenidos o tienen soluci\u00f3n. El desarrollo tecnol\u00f3gico actual lo permite. Existe la tecnolog\u00eda para reducir en gran parte la contaminaci\u00f3n atmosf\u00e9rica as\u00ed como para depurar las aguas residuales que podr\u00edan contaminar las aguas superficiales o subterr\u00e1neas. Tambi\u00e9n existe la tecnolog\u00eda para tratar o reutilizar los residuos s\u00f3lidos y evitar la degradaci\u00f3n del paisaje; tambi\u00e9n para reducir los niveles de ruido. Y muchas veces ni siquiera es necesario aplicar la tecnolog\u00eda existente para evitar un problema ambiental.
