La rebeli\u00f3n acab\u00f3 en asesinato, pero elpesquisador no pudo arrancar de las bocas de los aldeanos m\u00e1s que una \u00fanicarespuesta: \u00abFuente Ovejuna lo hizo\u00bb. Frente aeste admirable comportamiento se renunci\u00f3 a continuar la investigaci\u00f3n dandopor justa la venganza del pueblo. El famoso episodio fue recreado e inmortalizadopor Lope siglo y medio despu\u00e9s en una obra cuya tensi\u00f3n y fuerza dram\u00e1ticacautiva emocionalmente al lector. ReinaldoFroldi, uno de los m\u00e1s prestigiosos especialistas en la obra de Lope, aclara enesta edici\u00f3n el contexto hist\u00f3rico e ideol\u00f3gico de la \u00e9poca en la que sedesarrollaron los hechos y de la \u00e9poca en que fue escrita la obra, y analiza elajuste de Fuenteovejuna a la teor\u00eda lopesca sobre la comedia.
