Un tercer hombre, de quien no se nos proporciona mayores datos, es comisionado para viajar al futuro y encontrar a los perdidos expedicionarios. Y as\u00ed empieza la aventura.Porque aventura hay, aunque solo sea un marco en el que se plasma la verdadera intenci\u00f3n del autor, esta es, ofrecernos su visi\u00f3n de las limitaciones humanas y los vanos intentos de trascendencia del hombre del siglo XX. Si bien el pesimismo en la ciencia ficci\u00f3n es m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil de encontrar que el optimismo, no estamos ante una obra t\u00f3pica, pues las bases para la reflexi\u00f3n antes mencionada se asientan en los conocimientos ling\u00fc\u00edsticos de la \u00e9poca, que ya evidenciaban lo poco de absoluto que puede ser el conocimiento del mundo que podemos alcanzar. Y sin embargo, vanamente, intentamos trascender.El protagonista, en cambio, tiene la oportunidad de ver directamente el producto de nuestros afanes. Una humanidad dividida entre Anfibios y Moradores, acu\u00e1ticos y sensibles los primeros, terrestres y fr\u00edos los segundos; aunque comparten la caracter\u00edstica de experimentar un profundo desprecio (morigerado por su sensibilidad en el caso de un\/una representante de los Anfibios, quien desarrolla una suerte de relaci\u00f3n con el protagonista) hacia el habitante del siglo XX, es decir, hacia \u00bfnosotros?
