El m\u00e1s extenso, Itinerario, tiene un car\u00e1cter autobiogr\u00e1fico pues es el relato de la evoluci\u00f3n de mis ideas pol\u00edticas. Biograf\u00eda intelectual pero tambi\u00e9n sentimental y a\u00fan pasional: lo que he pensado y pienso acerca de mi tiempo es inseparable de lo que he sentido y siento. Itinerario es el relato y la descripci\u00f3n de un viaje, a trav\u00e9s del tiempo, entre dos puntos, mi juventud y mi presente. La l\u00ednea que traza ese proyecto no es la recta ni el c\u00edrculo sino la espiral, que vuelve sin cesar y sin cesar se aleja del punto de partida. Lo que vivimos hoy me acerca a lo que viv\u00ed hace sesenta a\u00f1os y, simult\u00e1neamente, me aleja irremediable y definitivamente. Extra\u00f1a lecci\u00f3n: no hay regreso pero tampoco hay punto de llegada. Somos tr\u00e1nsito.El otro texto se refiere a las circunstancias que me llevaron a escribir, hace ya m\u00e1s de cuarenta a\u00f1os, El laberinto de la soledad. Tambi\u00e9n es biogr\u00e1fico y se refiere a mi relaci\u00f3n cambiante con mi patria, su historia y su presente. Otra vez reflexi\u00f3n y confesi\u00f3n. Eran inevitables los cruzamientos entre los dos textos: \u00bfd\u00f3nde termina M\u00e9xico y d\u00f3nde comienza el mundo?, \u00bfc\u00f3mo distinguir, en el tejido vivo de la actualidad, entre el pasado y el presente, entre lo que fue, lo que es y lo que est\u00e1 siendo?Algunos se extra\u00f1ar\u00e1n de que, despu\u00e9s de haber publicado hace unos meses un libro sobre el amor: La llama doble, ahora entregue al p\u00fablico otro cuyo tema es esencialmente pol\u00edtico. La extra\u00f1eza se disipa apenas se repara en que amor y pol\u00edtica son los dos extremos de las relaciones humanas: la p\u00fablica y la privada, la plaza y la alcoba, el grupo y la pareja. Amor y pol\u00edtica son dos polos unidos por un arco: la persona. La suerte de la persona en la sociedad pol\u00edtica se refleja en la relaci\u00f3n amorosa y viceversa. La historia de Romeo y Julieta es ininteligible si se omiten las querellas se\u00f1oriales en las ciudades italianas del Renacimiento y lo mismo sucede con la de Larisa y Zhivago fuera del contexto de la revoluci\u00f3n bolchevique y la guerra civil. Todo se corresponde.O.
