Le gustaban la brevedad, la m\u00fasica y las im\u00e1genes de la poes\u00eda, pero obstinadamente se negaba a tragar las grandes novelas. A veces, los planes ideados por su padre, un prestigioso pediatra, la llevaban a leer novelas negras que s\u00ed la cautivaban; pero nunca Madame Bovary, por ejemplo. Entusiasta y optimista desde beb\u00e9, la protagonista \u2014que no es otra que la propia autora, Agn\u00e8s Desarthe\u2014 pensaba que al acceder al lenguaje estar\u00eda en condiciones de decirlo todo. Habr\u00eda una palabra para cada sensaci\u00f3n, para cada cosa vista, tan eficaz como el dedo que apunta al cielo con un grito inarticulado y que significa al mismo tiempo: avi\u00f3n, velocidad, flecha, ruido, miedo, belleza, rel\u00e1mpago, cohete, estrella, azul. Pero las palabras, sent\u00eda Agn\u00e8s ya de adolescente, eran imprecisas, poco numerosas, r\u00edgidas y ocupaban mucho espacio. Hasta que todo cambi\u00f3.
