Parten de Calcuta en direcci\u00f3n a Benar\u00e9s y luego al norte para alcanzar las laderas del Himalaya. El coronel Munro tiene un enemigo mortal, Nana Sahib, el \u00fanico l\u00edder de la rebeli\u00f3n de los cipayos que permanece todav\u00eda con vida, responsable de la muerte de varios centenares de mujeres y ni\u00f1os, entre los cuales se encuentra la propia esposa del coronel, lady Munro. La aventura de esta enemistad y las peripecias del viaje, del que la caza del tigre de bengala es uno de los principales objetivos, constituyen esta espl\u00e9ndida novela.\u00abTodo lo que est\u00e1 dentro de los l\u00edmites de lo posible, debe ser y ser\u00e1 realizado\u00bb, dice en un momento dado el ingeniero Banks. Este esp\u00edritu es el que verdaderamente empuja las grandes narraciones de Verne. Esa curiosidad que va aneja a la idea de progreso como esperanza en el futuro. Pero al mismo tiempo, como es costumbre en sus obras, describe la geograf\u00eda y las poblaciones, en este caso del norte de la India, con meticulosidad y nos presenta un elenco de h\u00e9roes y situaciones que dotan al texto de la peculiaridad de ser desbordantemente animoso, divertido, incluso jovial; aunque los odios sean a muerte; las escenas de acci\u00f3n, trepidantes; los traidores, genuinos traidores; y las escabechinas, torrentes de sangre.
