Pese a su fama de enajenado, su obsesi\u00f3n, parad\u00f3jicamente, resulta mucho m\u00e1s racional que la de Roimar. Haciendo de improvisado detective, P\u00e1rraga investiga una serie de muertes acaecidas en su pueblo y atribuidas por todos a causas naturales.La boca no se desarrolla en Roquedal y su estructura es tan extra\u00f1a como la obsesi\u00f3n de su protagonista, porque consta de una \u00fanica frase, monstruosa, sin apenas pausas para el aliento. El narrador es un odont\u00f3logo que atiende una consulta pr\u00f3spera, vive una vida familiar gris y tiene una relaci\u00f3n desgastada con una amante, pero su monocroma existencia cambia de improviso cuando hace un descubrimiento singular: por dentro alberga huesos.
