Experiencias muy variadas, en funci\u00f3n de los niveles econ\u00f3micos, los diversos grupos sociales, las creencias religiosas, los c\u00e1nones est\u00e9ticos, los gustos y las modas configuraron un amplio panorama que va desde el hambre a la abundancia. Porque tan significativa para la alimentaci\u00f3n es la historia de los banquetes como la historia de las hambrunas. Todos necesitaban comer cada d\u00eda, pero las posibilidades no eran las mismas. Unos ten\u00edan que contentarse con cualquier cosa, otros pod\u00edan comer mucho y bien. La cantidad era importante, pero todav\u00eda m\u00e1s la calidad. Comer bien era comer alimentos exquisitos, preparados por cocineros excelentes; era adem\u00e1s comer cosas nuevas, sorprendentes, al alcance de muy pocos.
