Y en este volumen los tres g\u00e9neros est\u00e1n presentes. La naturalezade las cosas conyugales, como dice Balzac en su ineludible Fisiolog\u00edadel matrimonio, poralg\u00fan tiempo encandil\u00f3 la imaginaci\u00f3n del joven literato Payno. Tanto as\u00ed queensay\u00f3 la manera de fijar algunas de sus ideas por escrito en diversasnarraciones y art\u00edculos \u2014destinados originalmente para el peri\u00f3dico\u2014, con elfin de que las reflexiones del momento no se perdieran en las aguas insondablesde otros tantos pensamientos tumultuosos. \u00c9sta es la materia de Memoriassobre el matrimonio y otros escritos. La figura de Balzac, desde luego,domina la tensi\u00f3n esencial del sarcasmo y la iron\u00eda de Payno. Pero no por esoestas p\u00e1ginas escapan a la \u00f3rbita del autor de dos de las grandes novelas delsiglo XIX mexicano: Elfistol del diablo y Losbandidos de R\u00edo Fr\u00edo.
