Cada elemento de este surtido ha dejado de ejercer fascinaci\u00f3n como elemento aislado: el fen\u00f3meno ahora consiste en que es la totalidad norteamericana la que se importa como un lote completo. No s\u00f3lo los modos de vida sino el contenido de la vida; no s\u00f3lo la manera de divertirse sino la diversi\u00f3n; no s\u00f3lo un estribillo sino una lengua; no s\u00f3lo una receta sino la comida; todo, en fin, el esp\u00edritu familiar, las formas de comprar, las formas de amar, de vestir y de cenar, los planes de estudios y de jubilaci\u00f3n y hasta las sectas, es de naturaleza americana. Da lo mismo que se atienda al fen\u00f3meno en Gran Breta\u00f1a, en Francia, en Italia o en Espa\u00f1a: bajo el pensamiento \u00fanico, el mercado \u00fanico y la aldea global se hacen a la americana, desde Indonesia hasta Chile pasando por Pek\u00edn.Este libro se ha escrito con el prop\u00f3sito de mostrar c\u00f3mo los contenidos sociales, pol\u00edticos o econ\u00f3micos que se est\u00e1n expandiendo son coherentes con los ideales fundacionales de ese pa\u00eds y su idiosincrasia peculiar, pero no por ello tienen que sentarnos bien a todos. Ni siquiera a buena parte de sus propios habitantes les hace ya provecho.
