Un cat\u00f3licoy un ateo intentan batirse en duelo a muerte, cada uno por defender sus ideas.No lo consiguen, pues siempre tienen que huir de las autoridades que tratan deimped\u00edrselo, lo que al final termina por convertirlos en aliados. En su huidaen busca de un lugar donde librar el duelo, una huida que se produce por tierray mar, incluso por aire y hasta estratosf\u00e9ricamente (Chesterton fabula aqu\u00eddeliciosamente con naves volantes que van hasta las estrellas), acabar\u00e1ndirigi\u00e9ndose del sur de Inglaterra a las islas del Canal de la Mancha merced aunos avatares por momentos delirantes y plenos de comicidad, y por momentosemotivos, en tanto la amistad de los dos forajidos va consolid\u00e1ndoseprecisamente a partir de sus presupuestos ideol\u00f3gicos contrarios. Como el resto de las obras deChesterton, La esfera y la cruz abunda en paradojas y aventuras que bordean loins\u00f3lito, hasta desembocar en una insurrecci\u00f3n en un manicomio, desatada por elateo y el cat\u00f3lico, en una sucesi\u00f3n de cuadros tan disparatados como mordaces atrav\u00e9s de los cuales hace Chesterton una cr\u00edtica feroz de las institucionespsiqui\u00e1tricas y de los m\u00e9dicos, as\u00ed como de todo lo que convencionalmente setiene por razonable y cuerdo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>G.
