Hoy en d\u00eda aparecen en la distribuci\u00f3n de las estrellas de nuestra galaxia, en las irregularidades de una costa y en el latir de un coraz\u00f3n. Se ramifican en nuestro cuerpo en alv\u00e9olos y redes neuronales. Se dibujan en la evoluci\u00f3n de los sistemas ca\u00f3ticos y constituyen la huella de fallas y fracturas. Una marca fractal se\u00f1ala la distribuci\u00f3n de los epicentros de los temblores, la repetici\u00f3n de las palabras de un texto e incluso las fluctuaciones de precios en un mercado. Las reglas de la geometr\u00eda fractal se emplean para crear, reproducir; almacenar y transmitir im\u00e1genes. As\u00ed han revolucionado en todos sentidos la manera en la que captamos la imagen del universo.Pero, \u00bfqu\u00e9 es realmente un fractal?, \u00bfcu\u00e1les sus propiedades?, \u00bfc\u00f3mo y d\u00f3nde podemos identificarlo o constituirlo? \u00c9stas son algunas preguntas que Vicente Talanquer responde en este texto utilizando ejemplos sencillos de las \u00e1reas de la f\u00edsica, la qu\u00edmica y las matem\u00e1ticas. El libro no s\u00f3lo pretende que el lector descubra el mundo de los fractales, sino tambi\u00e9n que aprenda a recrearlo.
