La ambientaci\u00f3n g\u00f3tica, tenebrosa e inquietante, nos sit\u00faa ante Titus, el joven heredero del castillo laber\u00edntico de Gormenghast, que pasa a ser el verdadero protagonista de esta novela debido a sus recovecos, sus secretos y unos personajes tan grotescos como siniestros. Esta Bildungsroman (novela de formaci\u00f3n y desarrollo del protagonista) nos ofrece a un Titus destinado a convertirse en el 77 Conde de Groan, haciendo frente a la locura de su padre y la aparici\u00f3n de un ej\u00e9rcito de criados del castillo que conspiran por arrebatarle el poder.Mervyn Peake, novelista, poeta y artista, naci\u00f3 en 1911 en Kiling, China, hijo de un m\u00e9dico misionero. Lleg\u00f3 a Inglaterra a los once a\u00f1os y estudi\u00f3 en las Royal Academy Schools. Entre 1934 y 1936 vivi\u00f3 en la isla de Sark con un grupo de artistas y, de vuelta en Londres, ense\u00f1\u00f3 dibujo y pintura e ilustr\u00f3 obras de Coleridge, Stevenson, Carroll y otros. En 1946 public\u00f3 Titus Groan, luego Gormenghast (1950) seguido de Titus Solo (1959), una trilog\u00eda g\u00f3tica que pronto se convirti\u00f3 en una obra de culto.
