La traici\u00f3n acecha en cada recodo, en cada callejuela, tras cada columna. Por si fuera esto poco, el poder de un movimiento republicano clandestino, \u201clos Libertadores\u201d, ha extendido sus tent\u00e1culos por todas partes y parece que ha conseguido infiltrarse incluso en la Guardia Pretoriana, y su prop\u00f3sito parece ser acabar con la vida de Claudio. Llegados a este punto, el emperador decide poner el asunto en manos del secretario imperial, Narciso. El enemigo \u00edntimo de Macro y Cato sabe que puede contar con la lealtad absoluta de esos dos veteranos hacia Claudio, y que no pondr\u00e1n reparos a una misi\u00f3n sumamente arriesgada: infiltrarse en el cuerpo de \u00e9lite romano, que apesta a corrupci\u00f3n. Macro y Cato no pueden ni imaginar lo que all\u00ed encontrar\u00e1n; pero si es la muerte, no ser\u00e1 Narciso quien llore su p\u00e9rdida. Probablemente, desde el gran cl\u00e1sico de Robert Graves no se escrib\u00eda una novela tan absorbente y vigorosa acerca de los tiempos del emperador Claudio. Sin duda, Claudio y su tiempo es una etapa de la historia romana que nunca ha perdido el inter\u00e9s, y en cierto modo, la \u00faltima novela de Scarrow es una actualizaci\u00f3n del gran cl\u00e1sico que le dedicara Graves, pues retrata la misma \u00e9poca y algunos de sus personajes, pero mediante una trama y con una prosa m\u00e1s moderna y propia de la mejor novela hist\u00f3rica de hoy.
