En \u00e9l se dibujan diversas escenas que ponen de manifiesto el caracter del Cardenal Francisco Jim\u00e9nez de Cisneros, que gobern\u00f3 la Corona de Castilla en dos ocasiones por incapacidad de la reina Juana. Entre 1506 y 1507 presidi\u00f3 el Consejo de Regencia que asumi\u00f3 el gobierno castellano tras la muerte del rey Felipe el Hermoso en espera de la llegada de Fernando el Cat\u00f3lico. Entre 1516 y 1517 volvi\u00f3 a asumir el gobierno tras la muerte del rey Fernando y en espera de Carlos I.En el acto primero, la reina Isabel la Cat\u00f3lica, de la que era confesor, le nombra arzobispo de Toledo, tras la muerte del cardenal Mendoza, y a pesar de la resistencia del fraile para aceptar ese honor. Esto representaba el mayor poder tras la Corona, al ser Primado de Espa\u00f1a y Canciller Mayor de Castilla.El acto segundo se dedica a describir las intrigas de la Corte, en las que se ve envuelto Cisneros, enfrent\u00e1ndose a los nobles, castellanos y flamencos, que quer\u00edan defender sus propios intereses, e impedir su encuentro con el futuro rey Carlos I que se trasladaba desde su Flandes natal a Espa\u00f1a para tomar posesi\u00f3n de su reino.El tercero, sit\u00faa al regente dirigi\u00e9ndose al encuentro del pr\u00edncipe Carlos que ha desembarcado en Villaviciosa (Asturias). Su salud ya es precaria y se detiene en Roa (Burgos), esperando verse en los d\u00edas siguientes con el pr\u00edncipe en la villa de Mojadas (Burgos).
